Caroline Street

Chippies
Ask anyone who's ever been out on the lash in Cardiff where the best place for a post-club snack is, and they'll point you in the direction of Caroline Street (otherwise known as Chip Lane, Chippie Alley, and scores of other similar derivatives). It houses six or seven take-aways (chippies and kebab houses), but the real competition is between next-door neighbours 'Tony's and 'Dorothy's', the latter's 'Chicken Curry off the bone and chips' might well be the most popular take-away meal in Cardiff.
The atmosphere on this street is as much of a draw as the food, though, and it's worth turning up for a mooch around even if your not hungry, or would prefer to avoid putting your body through the digestion of a cholesterol-soaked mass of potato after a heavy night on the beer. It can probably best be described as 'welsh carnivalesque'.
Smartening up
Around 2003 as part of the Brewery Quater development, Caroline Street was smartened up, with new paving etc. When the new flats were built, whoever decided to put the door buzzers on Caroline Street had obviously never been out in Cardiff on a Saturday night.
