Mainly residential area in south-west Cardiff whose rapid expansion took place after WWI to provide 'homes fit for heroes'. The area has since acquired a reputation for crime and violence (including race riots in 1991) that residents are keen to dispel. Famous Ely-ites include Shakin' Stevens, and.. erm... Noel from the pop band Hearsay.

I thought the riots of 1991 was concerning the price of bread? Also you could include BBC News reader Jason Mohammad and someone called Ryan Giggs amongst many others!
